Fistful of Alaska

Wow, what a haunting life version of Caroline says II by Lou Reed in 2005. Technically he sings poorly, but his performance is grand. It is as if it is the first time he hears this tragic story. Or worse, as if he realizes that he has driven his girlfriend towards suicide. And at the end of the song, suddenly Anthony of Anthony and the Johnsons joins with his hauntingly high voice to sing ‘so cold in Alaska’. Two years before in 2005, Anthony published the song ‘Fistful of love’. Although also a song about physical abuse it explores the other side of it. Here the ‘victim’ sees the abuse as signs of love. Interestingly, it is  Lou Reed who sings the intro text of Fistful of Love where he realizes that he needs to let his lover ‘know  how he feels’.
